Bone Health and Chiropractic Care

To keep your body healthy, you have to pay attention to the health of your bones and muscles.  These are very important body parts that help you stay strong, upright, and capable of living a happy and productive quality of life.  Regular visits with a chiropractor is a big part of these all staying healthy and strong.

There are two hundred and six bones of various shapes, sizes, and functions that make up our adult skeletal system. These amazing structures have many crucial roles in our body, including:

  • Storage of minerals such as collagen, calcium, magnesium, and mineral salts.
  • Production of red blood cells, platelets and most white blood cells.
  • Protection of vital organs such as the spinal cord, brain, heart and lungs.
  • Providing structure, allowing movement of extremities, locomotion, and attachments of the tendons of our muscles.

Our musculoskeletal system allows us to do all the activities of daily life that we love; it is a three-part system consisting of bones, muscles, and joints.  These three components are all unique and different from each other in their composition and functionality; however, they are also completely reliant on one another.  If the health of one component is compromised, it will ultimately affect the health of the other components.

Alignments can help relieve pain, pressure, and other serious symptoms.  Once your spine is straightened out the joints and bones all over the body are able to align themselves properly.  With an alignment and recommended exercise your care provider plans for you, life can become better than ever.

Osteoporosis (a disease in which bones become brittle or break easily) can be treated with chiropractic care.  Having osteoporosis can put you at greater risk of breaking a bone.  In fact, the first sign of osteoporosis for many people is a broken bone, which often causes intense pain. Common places for fractures to occur include the hip, spine, and wrist.

Common Treatments:

  • Adjustments
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Rehabilitative exercises
  • Counseling about nutrition and dietary supplements

We can preserve the health of our bones and joints with regular weight-bearing exercises, nutritional supplementation (Calcium, Magnesium and Vitamin D), a healthy diet, and chiropractic care.  By improving joint alignment and muscle function, inflammation and degeneration are reduced, and mobility can be restored which can prevent you from falls and fractures associated with osteoporosis.  This type of maintenance care will help you live a long, active, pain-free lifestyle. Take care of your musculoskeletal system, and it will take care of you.

Starting with chiropractic care from birth is another way to help prevent issues later on in life with your bones—and the rest of your musculoskeletal system.

Keep in mind that it’s never too early to start taking care of your bones and alignment and that it’s better to get ahead of a problem before it starts!  Many chiropractors start treating babies as young as just a few days old.  Infants are consistently growing, and their bodies are changing.  Having regular chiropractic visits can help to ensure things are properly developing and if stop any issues before they arise.
