Why Continuing Chiropractic Care is Important

Although you may feel wonderful after just one visit from your chiropractor, that doesn’t mean you are going to stay that way and can avoid any further treatment. It’s crucial that you follow up as directed by your chiropractor and do any work at home that may be given. Chiropractors often will give a plan of stretches, workouts, and dietary routines to follow at home after your session. There are many benefits to continued care, all of which can only help increase your energy and prevent any pain down the road. Each session with your chiropractor can focus on different parts of your body and different alignments. As the saying goes, Rome wasn’t built in a day, and you won’t be cured with just one adjustment.

Some advantages to continued care are:

  • Posture improvement – You may not notice problems right away, but issues will build up over time and eventually can cause big trouble!
  • Preventing other injuries and pain – This continued care helps keep your spine aligned, which helps it to be stronger and better supported. This leads to a decrease in your risk of injury or relapse of old issues.
  • Avoiding prescription medication – The pain relief from treating the CAUSE of the pain and not just the pain itself allows you to take fewer pain medications, which is better for your overall health and wellness.

Sometimes it’s best to wait a few days after specific adjustments are given. Follow-up care is important but should wait until the time recommended by your chiropractor. After an adjustment that reorganizes nerves, it’s highly recommended that the patient rest as much as possible afterward.   The first few chiropractic adjustments should be done separately from any other healing activity.  Also, if you regularly exercise, you should schedule your first few chiropractic adjustments several hours away from your exercise routine.

You should make sure that your second visit is scheduled within the time period recommended by your chiropractor.  He/she will know the best time for a second treatment, as usually when chiropractic adjustments first start, they must be done within a few days of each other for at least a few treatments in order to get the best results and fix the issue.  If you’re going to change your body with exercise, and you really want to create momentum, going to the gym once a week is not going to do it.  The same principle applies when it comes to changing your spine and nerve system.  An immersion
period is needed to help you gain momentum, and momentum is crucial to the healing process.

Without momentum, your body will very quickly return to old structural patterns.  If a spinal system is going to rediscover connection, transform its structure, behavior, and perception, and awaken to the capacity to heal from within, momentum is the key.

Follow-up care can benefit you in the long-term and help keep the progress from your first initial
chiropractic visit. With chiropractic visits, after-care, proper diet plan, and exercise, you will feel younger and healthier—and more pain-free!
